Rock Art Escalante Utah

Petroglyphs (rock engravings) are scattered through-out Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.
The Ancient People were very industrious with the carving below. Any one can interpret the story, but we'll never know what the artist (or artists) wanted to convey. This panel can be found in the mouth of Neon Canyon, Escalante, Utah.

This pictrogragh (rock art that is drawn or painted on rock face), can be
found off Highway 12, NE of the Bridge where Calf Creek and Escalante River converge.
Got to hand it to the Ancient People: they were here before us.

Wagon Covered Arch/Bridge Escalante Utah

Wagon Covered Arch

This sweet bridge/arch is off Cedar Mesa Road, about 5 miles after Center Street turns into gravel in Escalante, Ut.
We rode our Mtn bikes to the other arch on Cedar Mesa Road, a white wind-blown sandstone arch called Cedar Mesa Arch. Want to see more of Escalante's arches? Check out the chamber's videos for "Arches in Escalante Utah area."

We donned our special glasses to watch the annular solar eclipse on Spencer Flats in Escalante, Utah.

Another way we watched the eclipse's progression was through binocular lens that were reflected on white paper.

Apricot Blooms

The Apricot trees in Escalante are blooming. Don't know how much longer the flowers can hang on, as it is gusty and temperatures are dropping tomorrow.

Spring is Here!

Spring is starting!  Some of the willow trees in town are showing green and the daffodils are coming up in front of the post office.

Hole in the Rock Road is in good condition.  Spooky & Peekaboo slot canyons may be a bit muddy in some areas.  The Visitor Center will have up to date information  435-826-5499.

The weather for the next couple of days looks great for a visit to Escalante and Boulder.  Escalante will be 70ish degrees Friday and Saturday.  Sunday, the temp drops about 20 degrees, so pack and plan your time accordingly.  Weather is scheduled to peak up nicely on Tuesday back up to 70ish, 1st week of April.

Come visit this slick rock paradise!
